Hi there!,
Having been involved in the internet since the old dial-up days, and computers, since 1982 when a close friend of mine bought a Commodore 64.
We both dabbled in a bit of programming at the time and it was just as well since computers were going to play a big part in my life.
A few years later when I owned my own maintenance business. and companies were looking for someone to help them with their new technology. I had some kind of ability to pick up the thread of programming and logic helped me eventually get into factory automation.
I already had a good reputation with many big high street names for my maintenance work. and it allowed me to gain customers and keep myself busy.
That computing became handy when the internet came along and I ventured into the world as a maintenance company by day and father and Internet marketer by night.
Ah… those dial-up days, I remember so well my daughters running to tell me the internet was brilliant that night and it only took twenty minutes to get a connection.
Due to the pressures of the credit crunch in 2008/2009, I decided I would have to give up my contracting work and turn my attention to the internet. Suddenly graphics and web media were available for everyone.
I now spend my time encouraging people to learn to teach themselves anything they want to learn by using the internet. I did enrol once to pick up some “computing” qualifications.
It was a disaster because the college course was so undemanding and lasted too long for my needs. I then became an “Autodidact” (A person who teaches themselves.) this proved to be a good idea when a customer of mine who ran the computer department in a local University told me if they had a problem, they just googled it.
